Located 1.5km SW of Mount Maclaren and 2.4km NNW of Mount Bolton. There is a higher point of 2730m which is 720m from the official summit which clearly is the higher point of the mountain so it used for Bivouac purposes.

Name Notes: Named by Interprovincial Boundary Survey after John Wilfred Shankland who was the son of Thomas and Wilhelmina Shankland who were from Fenelon Falls, Ontario. Shankland was serving with the "A" Company, 20th Batallion, Central Ontario Regiment when he was pronounced killed in action on November 9, 1917 while only 19.
