This peak is #34 in Prominence List for British Columbia . Located near the confluence of the Skagit and Sumallo rivers. Silvertip is the highest mountain in the Skagit area of the Cascade Mountains. Silvertip has 2000m of relief above surrounding valley bottoms. All climbs require a tremendous amount of steep elevation gain. The rock on Silvertip is generally middling quality at best and is sometimes quite odious, most routes follow snow where possible. The Northeast ridge does have some good rock here and there. The base of the north face of Silvertip holds some good, one and two pitch, waterfall ice climbs (WI 4-5) which should only be attempted under conditions of minimal avalanche hazard.
Name Notes: The name refers to the fact that Silvertip's summit holds snow late into the year when the surrounding ranges are bone dry, and does not apparently refer to any mineral deposits.
