| Between Yalakom River and Churn Creek. Poison Mtn stands at the convergence of the Shulaps and Camelsfoot Ranges, and is considered to be part of the Camelsfoot Range even though it is west of the Yalakom River's headwaters. It is the highest of a group of roundish cone-like alpine domes and enjoys a breathtaking set of views in all directions - down the Yalakom, into the upper Bridge River Basin and Gun-Creek Eldorado ("South Chilcotin") area, and across the plateaux to the northwest and east. Its view of the northern horizon to the north is obscured by the higher elevation of neighbouring Red Mountain, but eastward on a clear day you can see the ranges east of Kamloops and the effect of the great gulch of the Fraser Canyon as it carves its way southward into the Plateau. Roads from the area of Poison Mtn lead in all directions, both into the upper Bridge River Country and the roadnetworks north from there, as well as into the ranchlands along the Fraser. Easiest access is via the Yalakom River valley, or from the Nine Mile Ridge/China Head areas. The prominence saddle is on the road to Red Mtn, which is the higher ground. |
