Location: Includes everything between N and S Saskatchewan rivers, such as Banff, Yoho, Kootenay National Parks. Area: 48424 sq km Includes: Banff National Park, Yoho National Park, Kootenay National Park, Kananaskis Country, Wapta Icefield, Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park, Elk Provincial Park, Lake Louise Terrain: The ranges are oriented as long north-south barriers. The ranges on the western edge are heavily glaciated, but as you move eastward become considerably drier. At treeline (6500') in many locations are larch trees, whose needles turn golden in September each year.
